You are not broken, you just need a breakthrough (10 ways to get past self doubt and conquer your inner critic)

Are you struggling to let go of your incredibly high standards, self doubt or criticism?

Did you used to write or express yourself creatively?
What changed or caused you to stop? When did you decide that your dreams were no longer important?

This is an invitation to welcome the beauty of Autumn into your life. Join us from tomorrow night (Wednesday 31st May)  for our introductory course and understand why you are the way you are, let go of the stories that no longer serve you and change the way you see yourself that leaves you feeling confident and excited about your life.

Here are ten ways to kill off your inner critic and allow yourself to dream again:

1. Focus on creating and celebrating creative rituals and habits. Decide to do one thing differently and commit to yourself and the process. Just start by making one small change to your daily routine.

2. Give yourself permission to be happy. Give yourself permission to be sad. Give yourself permission to feel without judgment. Let the pages of your journal hold the pain that you are carrying and then let it go.

3. Stop using the words ‘can’t and won’t’ when it comes to what you are capable of doing. When did you decide that you were not good enough? Is that thought yours or did someone else put that idea into your head? Whose lies have you turned into truth?

4. Life is not black and white. Be careful when using the words ‘always’ and ‘never’. Take responsibility for your actions. Own the part you play in relationships. If you feel that you are giving too much or that the other person does not respect you, you have the right to put yourself first. Put boundaries in where necessary. People treat you the way they do because you allow them to.

5. Change your environment. Taking a walk in nature can make a huge difference in changing your perspective and mindset. Leave your phone at home and be present to the world.

6. Challenge yourself to learn and grow. Educate yourself. Read. Spend less time on social media. Learn a new language or a new skill. Do the work because you are worth it.

7. Practice random acts of kindness. Give without expecting anything. Make it your mission to make a stranger smile today. Be kind to yourself. Take yourself out.

8. Get out of your head. Get off of your phone. Open your journal and get present. Find somewhere quiet and meditate. Embrace silence.

9. Stop looking for affirmations outside of yourself. Stop comparing your joy away. Stop looking at what you don’t have.
Give thanks for what you do have. On your way to work or while doing the dishes or when going for a walk, list all the things, people and experiences that you are grateful for that happened in the last 24 hours. Give thanks out loud or in silence.

10. Take note of what you spend most of your time thinking or talking about. Are the words you use mainly positive or negative?
If you find yourself starting to criticize yourself, stop the thought. Distract yourself with something that makes you feel good. You do not have to justify feeling good. You are enough and you matter.

Change is inevitable. What would your life be like if you could just let go and welcome it? Is life happening to you or are you living a life that allows you to create, dream and feel inspired and empowered? It’s going to take some work but you have everything it takes.

We still have a few spaces left for our introductory course, Writing Scared which starts tomorrow night, Wednesday 31st May. Feeling stuck? How to welcome change and let go this Autumn…

They said that 2017 was going to be the year that everything would change but it still feels like the whole world is struggling through.
Have you found that these first five months have been a struggle to get through?

You’re not alone and whatever you are going through is not the final chapter of your story.

What if this Autumn you did things differently?

This is an invitation to welcome Autumn’s energy into your life. Autumn is the perfect time for transformation, real lasting change and reflection.

Change is inevitable. The more you resist, the more intense the changes you are experiencing will feel.

Welcome the change. Learn to let go of everything and everyone that you have held onto so tightly.

Does the work you do make you happy?

Do the people in your life support, love and empower you?

Do you actively spend your time or money on experiences that bring you joy, peace or make you feel grounded?

Are you living a life that reflects your deepest desires or have you stopped dreaming?

Take time this Autumn to reflect on your life and where you are going. Do you have a clear vision of the changes that you need to make so that you can grow and live a life that you are excited about?

Take time to notice the changing colours of the leaves as they fall. Learn to let go so that you can allow space in your life for more good.

Autumn is a season of gentleness and warmth but it has to start with you. How are you being warm and gentle with yourself?

Join us for our introductory course, Writing Scared which starts next Wednesday 31st May and make the changes you have been looking for.

Tell your story, change your life and Write On!

How big is your brave?

In the five years since Write On! began, thousands of people have been encouraged and given the creative tools to tell their story. Ranging in age from twelve to eighty two and every nationality you can think of, people have begun to share themselves through the healing power of writing. We have laughed and cried together. We have bared our souls, showed up when we  were terrified, thought we had nothing left to give, faced our inner critic and took our demons head on by writing down the truth and releasing ourselves from stories that no longer serve and represent who we are.

Each person comes to Write On! for a different reason.  Some of you dream of becoming published, writing a film, a play or starting a blog. Some people just need a place to express themselves and become creatively unstuck. The beauty of sharing your story and owning your truth is that you find yourself and start to really appreciate what you have to offer the world. You start to see the importance of your words which allows you to start dreaming again. Since 2016, I have had the honour of working with some of you through one on one coaching and have seen your dreams begin to take shape in the form of plays, books, films, blogs, career  and major life changes.

One of the people who has made her writing dreams a reality is former Advanced course student, Frida Marie Stoop who was born in the Netherlands. On Saturday 6th May 2017 (World Labyrinth Day) had her South African book launch for Emergence – A Collection of Poems and stories about her travels in South Africa. As an adventurous citizen of the world, she has lived and worked in many countries including Belgium, Bosnia, Romania, India, Canada and South Africa. This is her first book.

I had the pleasure of first meeting Frida when she attended one of our workshops at the McGregor Poetry Festival in 2014. Last year, Frida returned to South Africa and did the Advanced Writing To Heal course and subsequently asked for some help with editing her book. Seeing Frida’s dream become a reality was inspiring and it was an honour working and walking alongside her on this journey.

Thank you to the Write On! community for supporting this incredible moment and congratulations Frida – thank you for telling your story and sharing your words with the world. It’s never too late to tell your story and Frida is living proof of that.

More photos from the book launch can be seen on our Facebook page.

If Frida’s story has resonated with you and you want to reignite your creative spark, our beginner’s course will be starting in a few weeks time. 2017 is far from over.  Is this the year that you put your dreams first and finally get unstuck?

Please note that spaces are limited and bookings are made on a first come, first served basis. Payment plans are available.

We will also be starting Writing To Heal, the advanced course shortly. We only run this course a few times a year so get in touch for more details.
