Did you make any new year’s resolutions or goals for yourself for 2016? Can you remember what they were and what motivated you to change? If your life were exactly the same as it is right now, one year from now – how would that make you feel?
Writing or any sort of creative outlet is often not put up high on our priority lists. There’s always something more important to do. What if this year instead of trying to tick off boxes and trying to please everyone around you by living up to their expectations, you celebrated this year in a way that works for you? What if instead of worrying about trying to have the most amazing end to the year at parties surrounded by friends or family, you did the opposite? What if you decided to slow down and spend some time quietly and in peace away from the chaos of December?
The pressure to keep up will still be there. The world will continue telling you how much you are supposedly missing out on. The world will not fall apart if you decline to attend every event to instead spend time reconnecting to yourself. It is not selfish to want to spend time healing and reclaiming the energy you have spent all year on making sure everyone else is okay.
The year is far from over. You still have time to make changes that will help you feel less anxious, stressed or upset. You don’t have to fight so hard.
